In 2025, Canadians bought a record 31,586 Ford Broncos and Bronco Sports, up 9.55% on the year before. The Ford Bronco then set new U.S. sales records in the first half of 2026. This post sets out why the Ford Bronco is so popular, using only published figures from Ford, Natural Resources Canada, Ford Racing and the North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year jury, so you can judge whether it fits your own driving in Vernon and the North Okanagan.
In the U.S., the Bronco followed with a record first half in 2026 and outsold the Jeep Wrangler in the second quarter.
The sales numbers: a run of Ford Bronco records
Ford of Canada’s 2025 sales summary reports that “combined sales of the Bronco and Bronco Sport hit a record 31,586 units, up 9.55% year over year.” The Bronco Sport is the smaller SUV that shares the name; the figures below separate the two where Ford does.
In the U.S., Ford Motor Company reported an all-time Bronco record of 146,007 sales in 2025, up 33.7%, including its best fourth quarter ever. Counting the Bronco Sport, the Bronco family reached a record 280,500 SUVs. The momentum carried into 2026: Ford reported a record second quarter of 45,739 Broncos, up 15.9%, and a record first half of 76,936, up 6.8%. In that second quarter, the Bronco outsold the Jeep Wrangler.
| Market | Period | Sales | Change |
|---|---|---|---|

| U.S., Bronco | 2025 | 146,007 | +33.7% (record) |
| U.S., Bronco + Bronco Sport | 2025 | 280,500 | +19.9% (record) |
| U.S., Bronco | Apr–Jun 2026 | 45,739 | +15.9% (record Q2) |
| U.S., Bronco | Jan–Jun 2026 | 76,936 | +6.8% (record first half) |
Reason 1: it is built for rough terrain
According to Ford of Canada, the 2026 Bronco offers up to seven G.O.A.T. Modes (“Goes Over Any Type of Terrain”), which Ford says are “ready to tackle nearly all conditions. On- or off-road.” Base through Outer Banks and Heritage models have five modes; Badlands and above have seven.
The figures that matter on a trail are clearance and water depth. Ford of Canada lists:
| 2026 Bronco | Ground clearance | Water fording | Max towing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base and Big Bend | up to 11.6″ | up to 33.5″ | 3,500 lb |
| Outer Banks, Badlands, Heritage, Stroppe | up to 11.5″ | up to 33.5″ | 3,500 lb |
| Raptor | up to 13.1″ | 37″ | 4,500 lb |
Three engines are offered: a 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 with 300 hp, a 2.7L EcoBoost V6 with 330 hp, and, in the Raptor, a 3.0L EcoBoost V6 with 418 hp. Several models offer a choice of a 7-speed manual or an optional 10-speed automatic transmission.

Reason 2: the doors come off
The Bronco’s doors are removable, and Ford of Canada notes that “handy storage bags keep the doors from getting dinged while they’re off the vehicle.” The side mirrors are mounted on the cowl rather than the doors, so they “stay right where you need them” with the doors removed.
Ford of Canada also states that “2-door models come with a standard hard top. 4-door models have a soft top standard,” and that buyers can “choose the dual-top option for any model.”
Ford’s own video walks through taking the doors off and packing them into the storage bags, step by step:
Reason 3: proven in competition and by the juries
- King of the Hammers 2026, first and second. On 8 February 2026 in Johnson Valley, California, Ford Racing took a one-two finish in the Bronco Raptor 4600 class, with Brad and Adam Lovell first and Loren Healy and Vaughn Gittin Jr. second.
- 2022 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. The Bronco won the utility category of the North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year awards, ahead of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Genesis GV70.
Reason 4: 60 years of the original sport-utility
“On August 11, 1965, Ford introduced the Bronco and coined the phrase ‘sport-utility,'” according to Ford. To mark six decades, the 2026 Bronco offers a 60th Anniversary Package with 17-inch Gravity Gray alloy wheels and Vermilion Red centre caps, leather upholstery with embossed logos, and special badging. On ford.ca it appears as the Outer Banks 60th Anniversary Edition.

Fuel consumption: what the ratings say
The Bronco is a four-wheel-drive SUV built for off-road use, and its fuel ratings reflect that. Natural Resources Canada’s 2026 Fuel Consumption Guide rates it as follows, with an estimated yearly fuel cost based on 20,000 km a year:
| 2026 model (NRCan listing) | Engine | Combined | Est. fuel / year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bronco 4WD, automatic | 2.3L | 12.0 L/100 km | $3,600 |
| Bronco Outer Banks 4WD | 2.7L | 12.2 L/100 km | $3,660 |
| Bronco Raptor 4WD | 3.0L | 15.3 L/100 km | $4,590 |
| Bronco Sport 4WD | 1.5L | 8.6 L/100 km | $2,580 |
